Mid-Year Orientation January in Vermont 1998 |
The Friends Across New England AFS Mid Year Orientation was held in Randolph, VT the last weekend in January. Local volunteers from the Randolph area helped make it a successful and fun time for all of the AFSers and Area Team Volunteers. For those of us who decided that sleep was necessary, even the gym floor turned out to be not-so-bad, especially as it got closer to 2:00 A.M. or 5:00 A.M. as the case may be... each night. At 6:45 A.M., the students were cheerfully awakened by special lighting and soft music in the morning - shall we tell the truth? Let's say then, that Janet turned on all the gym lights and blasted the music (with help from an anonomous student one morning) to make sure that no one missed breakfast!!! Jim was not subjected to this means of waking - he received advance notice!
Sledding was a great success, despite the bitter cold temperatures. For the less hardy, swimming was available, for others, quiet conversation was enjoyed during this time together. The highlight of the weekend was Saturday evening's talent show, where talent, fun and respect for eachother's attempts were truly enjoyed. We were all entertained by songs, dances, group acts and solos, juggling, flaming swords, giggles and jokes - some interesting humor, kids!!!
